Kaiping Diaolou and Villages

The Kaiping Diaolou are fortified multi-storey towers, generally made of reinforced concrete.  Located in Kaiping County, Guangdong province, these towers are the multiple-story-house for the purpose of defense and dwelling. They can be divided into tree types: communal towers, dwellings and night watchtowers. The upper part of the diaolou is built in the form of a colonnade, terrace and castle in a mixture of styles.

These well-preserved towers are also elegant and beautiful, and have been nominated for the inclusion in UNESCO's list of World Heritage sites since 2004. And it was listed as a world cultural heritage list in 2007.
