Longmen Grottoes

Longmen Grottoes is located on both banks of the Yi River, 13 kilometers south of Luoyang City; it was started in the Northern Wei Dynasty (around the year 493). The Longmen Grottoes prolong for 1,000 meters from north to south where there are over 2,300 holes and niches, 2,800 steles, 40 pagodas, 1,300 caves and 100,000 statues. They were mostly created by artists of the Northern Wei and the Sui-Tang dynasties.
